Common Start Coalition:

The Common Start Coalition is a statewide partnership of organizations, providers, and individuals working together to make high-quality early education and child care affordable and accessible to all Massachusetts families. The goal is to ensure that all children in our Commonwealth have the same, strong start and enter school on a level playing field.

Covid-19 Update:

On June 8, 2020, the Commonwealth entered Phase 2 of its phased economic reopening. Child and youth serving programs may begin the process of opening in Phase 2. Click here to learn more about the reopening process.

Since March 18, 2020, only approved emergency child care providers have been in operation to accommodate children of essential workers and vulnerable families with no safe alternative to group care. Emergency child care programs are guided by a clear set of health and safety protocols and child care-specific social distancing guidelines laid forth by EEC and DPH. They are updated regularly based on CDC developments. The EEC team monitors programs on a daily basis through direct outreach to each program to ensure accurate and timely information is delivered to providers.

The emergency child care system will continue to meet the needs of essential workers through the initial phases of reopening. As general child care reopens through Phase 2, the emergency child care system will be transitioned out.

More information on access and availability of emergency child care can be found here.
