What do you want the children in your care to gain while in your program?: 

Our goal is the development of each child in all domains: social, emotional, physical, cognitive and moral. We work to nurture the positive self image of each child as a “lifelong learner” in a safe, fun-filled, highly motivating environment.

What sets your Agency apart from the other area Agencies?: 

Our NAEYC accredited Wee Wuns programs are staffed by fully degreed, experienced, nurturing educators. Staff turnover is very low. Our program is located in the newly renovated Greendale Family Branch YMCA facility. In addition to our classrooms and outdoor playground, we have the use of the swimming pools, Kids’ Gym, and main gym.

Do you have the resources to accept special needs children?: 

Depending on the special need, yes.

What is your Agency’s educational philosophy?: 

Our educational philosophy is a developmental one. We believe in fostering the development of the “whole child”: social, emotional, physical, cognitive and moral. We believe that children learn best by “hands on” experiences by exploring a varied, creative, print-rich environment set-up and guided by highly qualified, caring, nurturing educators.

Have you had an “aha” moment with a child and/or a surprising result from the use of a classroom activity?: 

Many years ago we had a new Spanish speaking child who was very withdrawn and wouldn’t speak to the teachers. After many weeks of trying to use some Spanish words, I did the hand sign for “I love you” and said “te amo” in Spanish to him. After that the child was much more talkative and outgoing and became comfortable with the center. He settled in beautifully because he felt that someone cared enough to speak his native language.

Is there anything else about your Agency that you would like to be mentioned?: 

Wee Wuns has been in operation for over 40 years. It was the first Child Care Center at the YMCA of Central Massachusetts.

Wee Wuns accepts children from ages 2.9 to 5.

  • Our half day Nursery School (9:00 am-1:00 pm) services children ages 2.9 to 5 either on Mon. Wed. Fri. or on Tues. & Thurs.. Wee Wuns Nursery School runs for the school year.
  • Our Pre-K & Kindergarten is a full day program which runs for the full year. It services children who are 4 by Sept. 1st to 6. The day runs from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Our Pre-K & Kindergarten runs the full year. Our Nursery School runs for the school year. Our Wee Wuns Summer Camp runs from late June to early August.  Summer camp serves children ages 3-5. We offer 8 Weeks of summer camp.
