Teacher to Child Ratio: 

The Apple-A-Day Care Center meets at minimum, the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care requirements regarding teacher to child ratio which are as follows:

  • Infants: 3 infants: 1 staff member, 4 or more infants: 2 staff members.  Our infant room is licensed for 6 infants
  • Young Toddlers: 3 young toddlers: 1 staff member,   4 or more children: 2 staff members.   Our young toddler room is licensed for 7 children
  • Older Toddlers: 4 older toddlers: 1 staff member,   5 or more children: 2 staff members.   Our older toddler room is licensed for 9 children
  • Preschoolers: 10 preschoolers: 1 staff member   Our room is licensed for 17 children
Childcare Agency of the Month Questions
What do you want the children in your care to gain while in your program?: 

We offer a Creative Curriculum to the children in our care and we work together with the parents and/or guardians to provide a full and fair opportunity for each child. We take seriously the answers to one of the questions on the “Development History and Background Information” form which asks parents/guardians to say what they would like their child to gain from their experiences at our agency. Based on the answers given, we provide experiences and opportunities to enrich and enhance each child’s cognitive, social/emotional, physical and creative development.

What sets your Agency apart from the other area Agencies?: 

Besides being centrally located to the downtown Worcester area, Apple-A-Day Care Center has the appeal of “A Home Away from Home” because it is in a building which looks like a home. It lacks the sterile look and feel of some other centers and one can immediately feel the love, warmth, and security within its walls. We put our children and their families first, and strive to build strong and supportive relationships with them.

Do you have the resources to accept special needs children?: 

Our caring flexible and knowledgeable staff has worked and continues to work with children with some special needs. However, our building lacks structural requirements, which limits us to some extent.

What is your Agency’s educational philosophy?: 

Our educational philosophy is based on teaching our children through play and through the use of the creative curriculum. Our program is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child without discrimination and by providing a daily schedule filled with opportunities to create, explore, make choices, develop problem solving and social, personal interaction skills. Develop self help skills and work on concepts through first hand experiences.

Have you had an “aha” moment with a child and/or a surprising result from the use of a classroom activity?: 

Over the years we have has many “aha” moments. Some were funny and made us laugh until we felt tears streaming down our faces. Some left us with our mouths opened with awe. Here is one for you. One day on a field trip to one of our area supermarkets, two members of the group needed to use the bathroom. We made our way in and there was a woman washing at the sink. When she was done she proceeded to pull out paper towels to dry her hands. One of the children in my care noticed that she was drying her hands with about six towels and proceeded to say to her that she did not need that many towels to dry her hands, since she did not have very big hands. The woman looked at him, then at her hands and after a slight pause said, “You are so right.” On hearing this little C responded, “Yes, we need to take care of our environment and not waste.”

Is there anything else about your Agency that you would like to be mentioned?: 

The Apple-A-Day Care Center ’s director and staff would like to welcome all children and their families. Here we strive to make a difference in the lives of those in our care. We believe that care-giving is a sacred trust which should be guarded faithfully.
