Project Serve - a great food program to help families 'make ends meet'
What is Serve New England ?
Serve is the smart alternative to food shopping. Serve's program is designed to promote volunteer service by offering discounts on the highest quality grocery, meat, and produce items to community-minded individuals willing to volunteer 2 hours each month. If you already help at your church, school, hospital, senior center, etc. then you already qualify. If you help a friend with babysitting, yard work, or transportation without receiving compensation, then you qualify. We can also help you find a volunteer project.
Who can participate?
Serve's program has no eligibility requirements. It is open to people of all income levels, ages, and races. Anyone willing to give 2 hours a month of their time to helping others is eligible to participate in our food coop.
What's the food like?
The food is all the finest quality from top grocery store brands. Serve currently offers 4 food packages: (click on Voucher Eligibility under Parents to see pdf file).
How do I sign up?
Call 1-888-742-7363 or visit our web site at www.servenewengland.org. We will gladly put you in touch with the closest of our 350 chapters throughout New England . If you chose to register at a local chapter, they will help you place your order and take your payment of either cash or EBT cards/food stamps. Orders placed online or by phone will be charged to your MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover cards or E-check.
How many packages may I buy?
You may buy as many food packages as you want. The Family Meal Package is designed to feed four meals to a family of four. The Meat Only Package is extra portions of the same meats offered each month in the Family Meal Plan. No additional volunteer hours are required for those who order multiple packages. Most people order more than one package each month. A smart move since the cost is less than $1.20 per meal!
In Summary
You sign up either at a local chapter site or online. You chose the food package(s) that you want to purchase and pay for it on the order day. Sometime during the month you complete at least 2 hours of volunteer service. Then you pick up your food order at your local chapter at the end of the month on distribution day. You walk away with a box of food and that good feeling that comes from helping make your community a better place in which to live.
