Grant Information
Here you will find information about local and some statewide and national funding opportunities. If you have not written a grant before, you may benefit from a grant-writing workshop. There are several on-line grant-writing resources:
Grant writing is a science and an art. It is more than locating a funding source on the web and submitting a proposal. You want to establish a relationship with the donor. Always contact the program officer or fund manager before you submit a proposal. This will provide you with an opportunity to receive advice before spending hours crafting your grant. Foundations want to give money to organizations. However, they want to know that the resources will be used effectively to benefit the community. They may have previously funded a similar proposal and have learned what works (and sadly, what doesn't).
Grants Resource Center
The Grants Resource Center at the Worcester Public Library, an affiliate of the Foundation Center in New York City, contains information on corporate, foundation and government funding for non-profit organizations. The collection includes materials on fundraising, non-profit management, proposal writing and some information on grants for individuals.
Orientations to the Center, offered the first Tuesday of each month, provide an overview of the Center's resources and useful research strategies. Call (508) 799-1668 to register for these free sessions. The Grants Resource Center is located in the Worcester Public Library at 3 Salem Square Worcester MA 01608.
